Very few African acts can bounce back successfully after a hiatus.
It is no longer news that General Pype is one of such acts. As his new
single ‘Give it to me’ continues to win more hearts including my mother's, one thing is
certain : General Pype will be remembered as the Reggae artiste who
breaks creative barriers and can stand his own .
Obalende
Records and General Pype wanted to give his fans and friends a
wholesome taste of his music last Wednesday at Industry Nite and did
not disappoint. As for the crowd that filled Oriental Hotel’s
African Bar, from their response, it was obvious he came though on his
promise — albeit a bit later than expected as his performance came after
that of the the likes of Trigga, Lil Miss Miss, Diana Bada, Dokta
Frabz, Chyme HD, Ade Piper, Tilla Man, Elixy, Tenim of Salt of the Earth
Band, Benny Paladin , D’Prince and many more acts.
The
‘Champion’ crooner mounted the stage to a live play of the chorus of
MI’s Teaser - the track that edged him into our consciousness with back
up and instrumentals from The Salt of the Earth Band . It was a rather
energetic performance as General Pype performed his yet to be released
single – ‘Victorious Man’ which was followed by a bubbly rendition of
the fast paced ‘My Desire’ – a ragga medley he is currently promoting
alongside ‘Give it to me’. Next up of course was ‘Give it to Me’ which
was followed by a live rendition of ‘Champion’ where YSG’s Vector joined
him for the first time ever on stage. Their joint performance climaxed
with both men delivering the Late Da Grin’s verse from the Champion
remix tracks.
The
night was graced by industry heads such as Dele Esan, Deji Awokoya, Don
Jazzy and Bobby Salt of the Earth. Wande Coal, Tiwa Savage, Dr Sid,TY
Mix,Dammy Krane, Uzi, Shank, Skuki, Dj Sose, Jay Sleek and Kas were
also some of the acts who showed up at the event.
The event was hosted by Jimmy of Beat FM while music was supplied by Dj Spinall.
Industry Nite is an initiative of Matthew Ohio and is supported by Spinlet, Trace Urban and Beat FM.
