RETROwednesday:REMEDIES - SHAKO MO

Remedies were the new wave of Nigerian hiphop artist that came after the early '90s boom of the Danny wilsons, Eddie grant, Junior & Pretty, Blackky etc This group had Eddie remedy, Tony Tetuila and Eedris Abdulkareem. their songs were banging...fast rap...howls....their come up paved way for younger artists like Rasqie, Maintain, Plantation Boiz etc

WHAT I COULD FIND ON THEM
Eddie Remedy was invited, some years ago, to the studios of Raypower FM to come sing some of his songs. He went with two of his friends, Tony and Idris. When they got there, they were introduced as ‘‘the group’’ and the threesome sang some songs, all composed by Eddie. Thereafter, they were asked, “What’s the name of the group?” and Eddie, deemed to be the leader of the group, responded simply, “The remedies”. They took their cue from there, and they rolled off beautiful ballads, one of which was ‘Omode Meta Shere’, with Idris (now Eedris Abdulkareem) the rapper, Tony Tetuila the (sideliner and rhyme maker) and Eddie Remedy himself, the melodymaker. They rode into the limelight on the back of Kennis music, the label owned by the Ogungbe brothers and Dayo Adeneye. They later broke up and went on to solo careers.

RETROwednesday:JUNIOR & PRETTY - BOLANLE

These guys were the hottest thing in the industry in the early '90s, videos were played steadily and we all sang along. Story of Junior's attempt to toast Bolanle (Pastor's daughter). This happened pre-GSm, pre-Ali Baba, pre-Basketmouth. Released around 1994. pretty hilarious stuff. I'll have you know Obi Asika managed this guys.

WHAT I COULD FIND ON THEM
This duo came out with a block buster titled “life” on Premier Records Label. Their romance with the label started on the 4th of July 1994 after completing the terms of their agreement with storm records. They pioneered the use of pidgin to rap and ever since, this trend has grown in the music industry rapidly, though sadly one of them Junior Okechukwu Azike died on the 2nd of February 2005 as a result of injuries sustained in an accident while ridding a power bike. They were also the first Artiste to start show promotions through the Benson & Hedges road shows; this kept them out for a while as they had to tour major cities in the country for a period of time. A compilation in honor of Junior was put together in Premier Records ltd who brought them to limelight. Junior left behind a wife and three children. Pretty is an event consultant presently.

RETROwednesday: Blackky - Rosie

Grew up listening to the dude, he was the king pon de dancefloor in the early '90s...hell! i saw my first bikini in this video..,seeing this scantily dressed female always rose my blood at that time even considering that bikinis that year wear more swimsuit like. This Blackky - Rosie, a love song...still plays in my head..."...isa pana pam pam pam...rosie....rosie ahan ahn..." NOTE: that's what plays in my head tho. The actually lyrics is 'can i have a dancee...Rosie?"

What I could find on him
A graduate of Sociology from the University of Lagos, Blackky’s real names are Nya Edward Inyang. He began his musical career as a DJ in 1986. As a student, he was a regular feature in concerts usually at the very popular Lekki beach during festive periods of Easter and Christmas.

Blackky got his break in 1990 when he contested and won the Lekki Sunsplash Talent Hunt Contest, which gave him a record deal with the then Polygram Records. In 1991 he released his debut album; “About Tyme” which had hit songs like Rosie, Blackky’s Skank and Sugar Stick. Between 1991 and 2009, he has released over 6 albums and won several awards.

Where is Blackky tho?
